On 10 and 11 June, the international conference "The intersections of the film and TV industry in the Baltic Sea region: history and present day" will take place in the SuperNova cinema of Tallinn University.

While until recently, the film and television industry was perceived as a cultural phenomenon with similar but distinctly different operating logic, with distinctive aesthetics and distribution patterns, which fought with each other for the time and attention of the audience, then under the influence of the digital revolution, former rivals have begun to merge more and more, at least in the eyes of the viewer. It is clear from the presentations of the conference that, in fact, these two audiovisual fields have also been much more intertwined historically than it seems.

The conference will be ushered in by a roundtable on the possibilities of using the audiovisual heritage stored in film and television archives, which will present the experience of memory institutions in Denmark, Finland and Germany in presenting historical moving images in both digitised and analogue form, on both computer and cinema screens, for both entertainment and educational purposes.

The conference is organized by the Film Archives of the National Archives, the Estonian Film Institute and the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School of Tallinn University; the organisation is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

The conference will be held in English.
