The European Audiovisual Observatory will celebrate its 30th anniversary under the Estonian Presidency in 2022.

The European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) has been collecting and reporting facts and figures from the European film and television industry in Europe since 1992. 2022 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Council of Europe's audiovisual statistical organisation in Strasbourg, France.

In January, an EAO member state always takes over the rotating presidency every year. In 2021, the presidency was held by the United Kingdom and in 2022 Estonia will take over the presidency from them, represented by the head of the Estonian Film Institute (EFI) Edith Sepp.

As is customary every year, the EAO presidency organises a public media conference in the first half of June. This year, it will take place on June 7, and given the international situation, the conference will be held in a hybrid format. In addition to organising the conference, the Presidency can also choose the theme of the conference. Estonia's chosen theme concerns creators and creations in the European audiovisual field.

Edith Sepp said: "We are very pleased to take over the EAO presidency in such an important year for the organisation. Understandably, we look forward to supporting the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the EAO, even if restrictions are inevitable due to the international situation. Estonia is taking a creative approach to the conference!"
