The European Commission and stakeholders published a new study that sheds light on the status and working conditions of artists, cultural and creative professionals.

The study shows that improving working conditions for artists is primarily the responsibility of Member States. The study recommends that the European Commission collect and disseminate good practices and inform Member States about the policies and measures available to people working in the cultural and creative sectors.

The study looks at the employment characteristics of artists and cultural and creative professionals in EU Member States in relation to:

  • status and rights of the artist
  • Social security
  • self-employment
  • support for ecosystems and alternative funding options
  • artistic freedom
  • career development
  • measures to combat the Covid crisis
