The prize is open to authors from 41 countries who have joined the Creative Europe project, but the prizes are spread over three years and 1/3 of the countries are awarded each year. This year, authors from 13 countries will be awarded. In addition to the Estonian author, the prize is also awarded to authors from Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway and Spain.
The prize is awarded by a consortium set up by the European Commission and consisting of the European and International Booksellers' Association (EIBF), the European Writers' Council (EWC) and the European Publishers' Association (FEP).
The selection of the awardees is made by juries composed of representatives from the aforementioned local organisations. From Estonia, Tiit Aleksejev (chairman), Ilvi Liive, Rebekka Lotman, Marju Kirsipuu and Tauno Vahter will participate in the work of the jury this year.
Creative Europe will support the EUPL award winners with additional communication.
